Our Story

HBS Farm is built on a belief that nature is the best teacher — and that families thrive when they slow down, step outside, and reconnect with the world around them.

Hi! I'm Jordan, and I'm so glad you're here. I'm a mom, an outdoor enthusiast, and a firm believer that kids (and adults!) are better when they spend more time in nature.

My husband and I are raising three daughters in the beautiful Bear Lake Valley — and this farm is our family's refuge. We started HBS Farm because we wanted to share that feeling with our community.

The Nature Preschool came first — born out of a desire to give young children a different kind of classroom. One with dirt, wonder, and room to grow. Then came the flower farm, because, well, flowers make everything better.

I have a passion for outdoor learning, community connection, and creating spaces where families feel at home. Whether you're enrolling your little one in classes or visiting on a flower farm day — you're part of our community now. Welcome.

"I've worked in the Bear Lake School District for 40 years. I've been a special ed aide, title 1 aide, substitute teacher, middle school and high school coach, 3 years teaching 1st grade and 20 years as a kindergarten teacher. I like the idea of a Nature School because of the outdoor learning. Creativity and critical thinking can happen which helps to problem solve and promote imaginative thinking. Students can experience physical movement, learn through activities, independently and in groups. As a teacher, any time I took my class outside or brought items into the class from outside to learn, all my students were engaged and excited. I think increases in enthusiasm leads to better learning. I believe Nature School can help incoming kindergartners socially and emotionally, as well as develop motor skills and cognitive skills. I look forward to see the Nature School experience happen."

"I began working in early childhood education from 1983 to 1987, after a move to California. I worked with special needs in grade school and high school students from 1990 to 1999. A move to Texas gave me the opportunity to teach the next 20 years 5th and 6th grade students language arts and history. I love nature and find great joy in interacting with nature. There is an honesty about nature. I learn as I encounter various plants, birds, and insects and the interrelationship between all. I love the variety of creation around me. I am never bored with children or nature. I cannot think of a better way to counteract the pervasive impact of technology than spending time outdoors."

"I have worked in the Bear Lake School District for over 30 years as an elementary teacher and a high school special education teacher. In college, I worked as a preschool teacher and a preschool special education aid. I've always enjoyed seeing students grow and develop, especially if we could have fun doing it using activities. For example I ran the outdoor classroom, Jeopardy Reading Tournament, chess tournament, and had students create class movies that they wrote, filmed, and performed in. Nature School is another innovative way to help children find learning fun!"

"To inspire creativity, improve mental and physical well-being, and encourage people of all ages to get outside, learn from nature, and Create Your Own Refuge."
